Description
The Self Tapping Sleeve is a threaded insert designed to create durable internal threads in materials with lower shear strength, including plastics, fibre-reinforced materials, hardwood, plywood and non-ferrous metals. Its self-tapping external thread cuts into a correctly prepared pilot hole, while the internal metric thread provides a reusable fastening point for machine frames, fixtures and aluminium-profile assemblies.
Four sleeve sizes are available, covering internal threads from M4 to M8. The required pilot-hole diameter depends on both sleeve size and the material being machined, so use the table below when preparing the installation hole.
Dimensions and Technical Data
The dimensional drawing and table below show the available sleeve sizes, thread dimensions, pitch, recommended drill ranges and minimum hole depth.

Key Features
Self tapping sleeves are useful where a directly tapped thread in the base material would not provide sufficient durability or repeated-use capability.
- Reusable internal metric thread: Provides a durable fastening point for repeated assembly and disassembly.
- Self-tapping installation: The external thread forms its own mating thread in a correctly sized pilot hole.
- Broad material range: Suitable for plastics, thermoset materials, fibre-reinforced plastics, hardwood, plywood, hard paper and non-ferrous metals.
- Compact installation: Intended for applications with restricted residual wall thickness.
- Matching thread pitch: Same inside and outside pitch supports installation with suitable thread-tapping equipment.
Selection and Application
Select the sleeve first by the required internal thread size, then prepare the pilot hole according to the material-specific drill range shown in the technical table. The listed minimum hole depth should also be respected so the sleeve can seat correctly.
The SLEEVE-M8-M12 version is suitable for Vallder 40-slot aluminium-profile applications where an M8 internal fastening thread is required. The existing application example uses an enlarged profile hole in the range shown for this sleeve size.
Typical uses include aluminium-profile frames, CNC machine structures, fixtures, jigs, polymer components and repair or reinforcement of threaded mounting points.
Application Examples
The examples below show typical sleeve use in aluminium-profile assemblies and other components where a stronger reusable internal thread is required.

Installation
Prepare the pilot hole to the diameter specified for the selected sleeve and base material. Keep the hole at least as deep as dimension F in the technical table. The sleeve can then be driven with a suitable screwdriving or tapping arrangement until correctly seated.
