Description
The PLR Series is a compact 90° right-angle planetary gearbox for CNC motion systems, automation equipment and machinery where the motor cannot be installed inline with the driven axis. The motor input and gearbox output are arranged perpendicular to each other, allowing the drive package to turn through 90 degrees and reducing the required installation length along the machine axis.
This product group covers PLR60 and PLR90 single-stage frames with 3:1, 5:1, 7:1 and 10:1 ratios. Stepper variants are configured for 57 mm / NEMA23 and 86 mm / NEMA34 motor interfaces, while Servo variants are offered for 60 mm and 90 mm motor flanges. The manufacturer technical data specifies synthetic lubricating grease, IP65 protection, installation in any mounting direction, a 20,000-hour service life and one-stage efficiency of at least 96%.

Construction, Performance and Applications
The PLR layout combines a single-stage planetary reduction section with a right-angle transmission housing. The 90° architecture is the defining installation advantage of this series: it lets the motor sit perpendicular to the gearbox output axis, which is useful when machine depth is limited or when an inline motor would interfere with guards, frames or adjacent mechanisms.

90° Right-Angle Mechanical Layout
The PLR housing redirects the motor drive through a perpendicular axis while retaining the compact planetary output section. This arrangement is suited to machines that need a shorter drive envelope along the output direction without giving up planetary reduction.
- Perpendicular motor mounting: Motor and reducer output axes are arranged at 90 degrees for space-efficient machine layouts.
- Single-stage planetary reduction: The listed Vallder variants use 3:1, 5:1, 7:1 and 10:1 ratios.
- Protected operation: Manufacturer data specifies IP65 protection and synthetic lubricating grease.
- Flexible orientation: The manufacturer lists mounting in any direction, supporting varied machine architectures.

Compact Integration for CNC and Automation
The right-angle format is practical for CNC routers, milling-machine axes, rotary mechanisms, packaging systems and automation equipment where the motor needs to be folded alongside the machine structure rather than extending directly behind the driven axis.
- Stepper and servo configurations: PLR60 and PLR90 are offered with dedicated motor-side interfaces for the listed Stepper and Servo variants.
- Efficient one-stage transmission: Manufacturer data specifies at least 96% efficiency for the single-stage configuration.
- Reduced installation depth: The perpendicular motor arrangement can simplify integration inside compact frames and guarded assemblies.
- Application focus: Suitable for CNC axes, positioning units, indexing mechanisms and general industrial automation.

FAQ frequently asked questions
What is the main difference between the PLR and an inline planetary gearbox?
The PLR Series uses a 90° right-angle layout, so the motor is mounted perpendicular to the gearbox output axis. This reduces the installation length along the driven axis and can simplify compact machine layouts.
Which Stepper motor interfaces are available?
The listed PLR60 Stepper variants use a 57 mm / NEMA23 interface, while the PLR90 Stepper variants use an 86 mm / NEMA34 interface.
Which Servo motor interfaces are available?
The listed Servo variants use 60 mm motor flanges for PLR60 and 90 mm motor flanges for PLR90. Verify the exact motor-side geometry before installation.
Which reduction ratio should I choose?
Choose 3:1, 5:1, 7:1 or 10:1 from the required output speed, torque and positioning requirements. Final sizing should also respect the motor operating point and gearbox load limits.
Can the gearbox be installed in different orientations?
Yes. The manufacturer technical table specifies mounting in any direction. The surrounding machine structure should still provide correct mechanical support and clearance for the selected motor.
What should I verify before ordering?
Confirm the PLR frame size, motor type, motor-side flange, reduction ratio, available machine space and the required output loading. Use the dimensional table to verify the installation envelope.
